No more new engg colleges in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Government decides to urge AICTE not to grant approval for establishing anymore new engineering colleges in the State.

Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy on Wednesday said that development of technical education cannot be allowed at the cost of basic science courses.
Tamil Nadu presently has a whopping 471 engineering colleges. This year an unprecedented 1.11 lakh students have joined BE courses under the Government Quota alone. The total number of students entering engineering colleges is estimated to cross 1.5 lakh.
