Mine explodes in Eastern Sri Lanka

A minor explosion occurred in Ittikulam of Muttur in Eastern Sri Lanka when a backhoe clearing the land at a UN project site ran over a buried mine, Muttur police said.

The blast damaged the heavy vehicle but no injuries have been reported.
The authorities have temporarily suspended the activities of the UN project while the Muttur police are conducting further investigations.
