Interviews for recruiting English medium teachers for state-schools in Sri Lanka

The interviews for recruiting teachers to teach in English medium in public schools in Sri Lanka began today at the Royal College in Colombo.

The Ministry of Education has planned to recruit 1,200 English medium teachers to teach science and commerce subjects in English medium, said the Ministry Secretary Sunil Sirisena.
The Ministry recently held a competitive examination to recruit English medium teachers from graduates.
Those who are being interviewed are the candidates that passed the competitive examination. The selected graduates are to be employed for teaching subjects in English medium.
There is a severe shortage of teachers to teach Advanced Level subjects in English medium.

The Sri Lankan government plans to increase English language skills among the school students as an effort to promote better communication among different ethnic groups and to stay at the front of rapidly advancing technology.
