Hornets kill a man in Sri Lanka

As the hornets in Sri Lanka's famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress came to media lime light with repeated attacks on visitors recently, the local media reported another incident of a fatal hornets attack in the hill country.

The incident took place in a plantation in Lunugala in Badulla district where an estate worker was killed by hornets.
The victim, Velayutham Rajkumar, 28, was walking with his wife and two children when he was bitten by a hornet. He killed the first one but suddenly a swarm landed on him and stung him until he was unconscious, the wife said.

The victim succumbed to his injuries following admission to the hospital. The wife and the children were unharmed.
The authorities have used chemical means to drive away the hornets from the famous world heritage site at Sigiriya to protect the visitors.
