Sri Lanka's Minister of Culture and National Heritage Pavithra Wanniarachchi says archaeological excavations in the Northern and Eastern provinces have been restarted following interruptions for many years due to conflict.
The Minister explained that a new excavation programme will commence at the premises of Kandarodei, also called Kadurugoda historical temple in Jaffna. Delft Island close to the Jaffna peninsula also has new archeological sites.
The Minister also said that the assistance of the security forces is immense in the excavation work.
The government of Netherlands has provided hundred million rupees for the conservation programme that is being carried out at the Jaffna Fort.
