Sri Lanka's Marxist party, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), which is a constituent party of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) led by former Army Commander and parliamentarian retired General Sarath Fonseka, said today that General Fonseka is still a member of the DNA.
JVP politburo member and DNA parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake told a press conference today that although General Fonseka has applied to register a new political party, he would remain in the DNA.
Dissanayake said that General Fonseka's new party, the Democratic Party, would also be a constituent party of the DNA.
The DNA currently consists of several political parties.
General Fonseka yesterday (June 30) handed in the application to the Elections Commissioner to register a new political party. DNA parliamentarian Tiran Alles has been listed as the secretary of the Democratic Party.
