Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today ordered for a report on the death of the Ruhunu University student who died Thursday night allegedly due to injuries received in a police assault.
President Rajapaksa ordered the report a day after the police claimed the student had died due to an 'abnormality in the brain leading to a rupture of a blood vessel.'
Susantha Aruna Bandara, 25, died Thursday night allegedly due to severe head injuries received following a police assault on a group of Ruhuna University students on June 18.
Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) Convener Udul Premaratne said Bandara had suffered severe head injuries after being assaulted by the police on June 18 while he was at the university hostel.
The police however claimed that a complaint had been lodged by the victim's mother that he had been assaulted by a second year student at the University.
The President has now requested for a full report on the student's death from the police, university authorities, and other relevant officials.
