Just two days ago, the Karnataka High Court had lifted restriction on his spiritual activities, self-styled godman Nityananda Swami, facing rape and other criminal charges, on Sunday resumed religious discourses. Nityananda expressed his outrage at the first discourse he has held in nearly 80 days.
“In the web history, the internet has been jammed because of traffic only twice, once because of Michael Jackson's death and the second because of the Nityananda’s scandal. I was really shocked, Michael Jackson had to jump, dance and do all other sort of things but he had to die to jam the internet but me! What did I do to deserve this?” said the tainted swami.
Predictably the swami, who is accused of rape, used the opportunity to do some damage control. His first sermon to his disciples was on his experiences of jail and recalled his life in prison. After his arrest in April, he was released on bail on June 13.

“Sitting inside the prison, enlightment, compassion and to be peaceful is no more a pride, its a basic utility without which you can't survive. I tell you how to get enlighten quickly; it will be useful” added Nityananda.
Regardless of the uproar caused by the sleaze tape showing him with a woman disciple, Nityananda put up a face of calm composure.
“I am not connected with all the titles that have been given to me like the self-styled and controversial. Also somewhere the names itself are made half like some paper even called me Nithi,” said the swami.
Despite all the humour and the laughs he got, Nityananda is still facing criminal charges. However, the controversial godman will have to do more than preach, to rebuild his reputation.
Nityananda was embroiled in a controversy after a purported video footage showing him in a compromising position with a Tamil actress was aired on some local TV channels in March. Cases of rape and other offences were registered against him in Tamil Nadu and transferred to Karnataka.
