Minister Weerawansa's mother passes away hours after ending fast

Hours after calling off the fast unto death, Sri Lanka's National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader and Housing, Construction and Engineering Services Minister Wimal Weerawansa's mother passed away last night at the Colombo National Hospital.


Weerawansa's mother, aged 78 according to NFF sources, had been receiving treatment at the hospital for the past two weeks.
The remains are currently placed at the Jayaratne funeral parlor in Borella. Funeral arrangements are yet to be finalized.

Minister Weerawansa ended his 4-day fast after Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited him yesterday with his family and urged to end the fast.
