The Defence Secretary has decided to appoint Major General Prasanna Silva, who was the Commanding Officer for Mullaitivu, to a position at the Sri Lankan High Commission in the UK, sources from the Defence Ministry said. This appointment is to be made under the programme to appoint senior forces personnel to Sri Lankan missions in countries that have been identified to be part of the LTTE’s international wing and where there is a presence of the Tamil Diaspora.
These officers are to monitor these issues and make necessary proposals where relevant.
Military Spokesperson Brigadier Ubhaya Medawela said there have been several changes made in the positions
held by senior officers in the army. Major General Vasantha Gunathileka has been appointed as Military Services Secretary in the Army, Major General L.B.R. Mark as Commanding Officer for Mullaitivu, Major General Janaka Walgama as the head of the 51st Brigade and Brigadier Anil Sudhasinghe as the head of the 52nd Brigade.
Brigadier K.L.A.S. Wijesinghe has been appointed as the operations director of the Joint Operations Center and Major General M.K. Jayawardena as the commander of the Habarana transit camp.
