Former Sri Lanka Army Commander submitted a fake document, CID tells court

Sri Lanka's former Army Commander and present legislator, retired General Sarath Fonseka submitted a fake document to the military authorities saying that he received permission from Election Commissioner to use the services of Army deserters during the Presidential poll.



The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) told the Colombo Magistrate's Court that General Fonseka has produced the forged document to the special Army team who went to hid residence to arrest the Army deserters, who are now in custody.
Investigations have revealed that this was a fake document presented by Sarath Fonseka, the CID informed the court when the case on charge of recruiting army deserters to help Fonseka in the presidential election campaign in January was taken up in the courts.
The Police told the Magistrate's Court that they were further examining the missive submitted in this respect.
