Akshay’s a sweetheart: Trisha

As southern belle and reignwoman Trisha Krishnan gets set to make her B-town debut opposite Akshay Kumar she admits that she’s nervous, just like any other newcomer would be. “It is like waiting for the results after writing an exam.

I have butterflies in my stomach. I’m slightly nervous about how pan-Indian audiences will react to my Bollywood debut. Of course, I’ve always been worried before the release of my films,” she says.

However, she didn’t dub for her portions in her Bollywood film, despite being well-versed in Hindi. “My Hindi is pretty good, but I’ll dub for myself at a later date,” she reasons. Working with Akshay has been pure delight for her. Trisha is all praise for the Bollywood superstar, “Akshay’s so disciplined. He reaches the sets at 6.30 am sharp for a 7 am shot and is extremely dedicated, hardworking and a complete sweetheart. But he is fun-loving too and keeps the atmosphere lively with his jokes and pranks.”

Unlike southern stars, some Bollywood stars are rumoured to be taking their own sweet time to wrap up a film. “It’s just a misconception. Most of them are truly professional — there could be exceptions,” she defends. So much with regard for B-town, will she move bag and baggage to Mumbai like fellow K-town colleague Asin? “Not at all. I’m comfortably placed in K-town and T-town and am in a position where I can choose my roles. I’d love to do good films in B-town. I am contract-bound to do two more films for Akshay’s home production,” she points out.

Right now, Trisha is obsessed with her Tamil film co-starring Kamal Haasan, a project for which she had to give up four big-ticket films. “Actually I couldn’t do two films with Kamal sir, so when I got this offer I grabbed it. It has been my dream to work with him and it turned out to be a great learning experience. He discusses every detail about my role, rehearses with me and has honed my Tamil since it is shot in live sound,” she says, with a sense of satisfaction.
Has she bid goodbye to T-town, since she hasn’t signed any new film here of late? “Oh god, Telugu stars and filmmakers have treated me like a queen and I can’t live without their love and adulation. But I want to do a role with substance and soon I’ll sign one,” she clarifies. On the endorsement front, Trisha’s just added a retail brand to her list of toothpaste and soap ads. “I got enough messages from across the world stating that I was looking hot even in a saree in VTV and many young professionals wanted to try it out. I also heard that many outlets in interior Tamil Nadu are selling Jessy sarees, so I took up a big retail brand to promote their textiles,” she justifies.

Trisha also nixes her party girl image. “I don’t have a dual life. I am the same middle-class working girl in Chennai, Hyderabad or Mumbai and after work I hang out with close friends at coffee shops and pubs. If that makes me a party animal, so be it. I like to live my life on my terms. The last few months have been so hectic that I’ve hardly had any time to breathe. As a young professional I need to unwind too. Surely no one can grudge me that,” she asks. Has she found her Mr Right yet? “I think I am unlucky to not have found Mr. Right. Jokes apart, I am not desperately looking for him either. I know I’ll find him at the right time, “ she says. Amen to that!
