The United Kingdom's Department for International Development (DFID) has provided funds through thefor the renovations of the Kilinochchi general hospital in war-battered Northern Sri Lanka. The DFID, now known as UKaid, has contributed funds to UNICEF to help re-establish emergency obstetric and paediatric care at Kilinochchi General Hospital. The agency has funded the refurbishment and equipping of the operating theatre, labour room, maternity and paediatric wards to improve the emergency care of pregnant women, mothers and young children.
The newly refurbished and equipped facility officially opened on May 27 and is fully operational now.
The UKaid has previously provided funds for various health initiatives in the Menik Farm IDP camps.
