Sri Lanka's private bus owners decide not to increase bus fares

The Private Bus Owners Association (PBOA) in Sri Lanka today (20) decided not to increase the existing bus fares.



The PBOA yesterday (19) said that a final decision on revising the bus fares would be taken today at the conference of the Association's island wide branches.

PBOA President Gemunu Wijeratne told the media that the Association has today decided not to increase buys fares.

However, the bus owners are permitted to increase fares with effect from July 1 every year according to an agreement with the National Transport Commission (NTC).

The private bus owners have decided to meet with Transport Minister Kumara Welgama in order to discuss issues faced by them and the high maintenance costs incurred by them.
