Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa said today (18) the greatest betrayal of the nation was the allegation that security forces had killed unarmed LTTE cadres who had come to surrender during the final stages of the war last year.
The President made this comment while addressing the nation at the Victory Day celebrations at Galle Face green in the capital.
He also said that countries that support terrorism would also fall prey to terrorism at some point.
The President in his speech referred to the controversial "white flag" statement made by the former Army Commander retried General Sarath Fonseka during the last Presidential election.
General Fonseka, who is currently under military detention, was quoted in a local English weekly saying that ground forces were ordered to shoot the LTTE cadres who tried to surrender carrying white flags.
A case that has been filed in courts against the "white flag story names General Fonseka as the main accused.
