Sri Lankan government unable to facilitate security for General Fonseka to attend V-Day celebrations - minister

The Sri Lankan government today (17) said that permitting former Army Commander Retired General Sarath Fonseka to attend the Victory Day celebrations at Galle Face tomorrow (18) would create security issues.

Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told the media at the Cabinet press briefing in Colombo today that the government would find it difficult to make the necessary security arrangements to facilitate General Fonseka's attendance at the event, even if the Defence Ministry permitted him to attend the ceremony.

Responding to a question posed by journalists as to why the security provided to General Fonseka to attend parliamentary sessions could not be provided for him to attend the Victory Day celebrations, Rambukwella said that security in parliament is different from the security provided in open ceremony.

Victory Day celebrations are to be held tomorrow at Galle Face
