Sri Lankan government to rebuild places of worship in Kilinochchi District

The Sri Lankan government is currently engaged in rebuilding the religious institutions in the war-torn Kilinochchi District.
Deputy Posts and Telecommunications Minister Duminda Dissanayake, who has been assigned the task of coordinating religious affairs in the District, told Colombo Page that there are currently one Buddhist temple, four churches, 60 Hindu kovils and three mosques functioning in the Kilinochchi District.

He said that there are yet more dysfunctional religious institutions that have been destroyed during the war.

"We are looking at rebuilding all these places of worship and have already provided financial assistance to the institutions that are currently functional in the District," he said.
He explained that the development programme in the Kilinochchi District is being carried out under the supervision of UPFA parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa.
