Sri Lankan government allowed former Army Commander retired General Sarath Fonseka, who is currently detained by the military, to attend his mother-in-law's funeral today (17).
According to General Fonseka's family, he attended the funeral that took place at 6.00 p.m. today at the General cemetery in Borella.
General Fonseka's wife, Anoma Fonseka had reportedly sought Defence Ministry clearance for her husband to attend her mother's funeral today.
Military Spokesperson Major General Prasad Samarasinghe has told the local media that there was no issue in permitting General Sarath Fonseka to attend the funeral.
