Senior foreign policy advisors to President Obama meet with Sri Lankan President


 Samantha Power, Special Assistant to the United States President Barack Obama on Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights and David Pressman, National Security Council Director for War Crimes and Atrocities called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees today (15).

During the meting, Power, a scholar of foreign policy, especially as it relates to human rights and genocide, had discussed the post war situation and the resettlement process in Sri Lanka with the President.
Issuing a press release the U.S. Embassy in Colombo said the two senior foreign policy advisors to President Obama are visiting Sri Lanka from June 14-18.
The envoys will meet with senior government officials and members of civil society in Colombo, Jaffna, and Batticaloa.
The visit aims to continue last month's productive dialogue between Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris, in which both leaders discussed Sri Lanka's path through economic renewal, accountability, and reconciliation to greater peace, prosperity, and a stronger partnership with the United States, the release said.
The U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Patricia A Butenis, Sri Lanka's External Affairs Minister Professor G.L. Peiris, Foreign Secretary Romesh Jayasinghe and Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga were also present at the discussion.
