
The Regional Workshop for Police Officers and Prosecutors in South Asia on "Effectively Countering Terrorism" commenced today (8) at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo.
The chief guest of the occasion acting External Affairs Minister inaugurated the three-day workshop with over 60 foreign and local participants.
Sri Lanka's Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa delivering the inaugural speech acknowledged the service rendered by the country's police and intelligence services in vital operations to counter terrorist activities in the country while the soldiers were fighting in the front lines.
The workshop is aimed at providing a platform to discuss the role of the police and prosecution services in countering terrorism, while sharing their expertise and best practices and to exchange the latest information on investigation and forensic techniques.
Executive Director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) Mike Smith, Australia's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Kathy Klugman, of and Canada's High Commissioner Fred Jacques also addressed the inaugural session.
