More rehabilitated LTTE cadres in Sri Lanka receive jobs

Another 400 rehabilitated female Tamil Tiger cadres were given a new leash of life when they received employment at a garment factory in central Sri Lanka.

The 400 female cadres, 300 of whom completed their rehabilitation at the Weppamkulam Center and the other 100 at the Punthottam Centre in Vavuniya, received employment at the Tri-Star Apparel Factory in Alawwa yesterday.

The former women fighters have surrendered to the security forces during the final stage of the offensive.

The Sri Lankan government established 15 rehabilitation centers for nearly 12,000 ex-combatants who surrendered to the security forces. According to the authorities the government has so far released nearly half of them following rehabilitation, enabling the government to close seven of the 15 centers.

The government staged a mass wedding ceremony recently to marry 53 couples of former militants.
