Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith’s The Karate Kid which opened worldwide on Friday June 11, has taken an extraordinary opening in Tamil Nadu.
The film has been declared an universal hit and is being appreciated for its story and treatment.
In Chennai city The Karate Kid opened in 11 screens, 7 in English and 4 in Tamil and took a super 96 percent opening.
Chennai suburbs which fall under Chengalpet area, the film opened in 13 screens and have done 87 percent on the opening day. At traditional B & C areas of Madurai and Salem the film has taken an opening similar to a Tamil superstar film!
Says Meenakshi Sundaram, Manager of Mayajaal Multiplex: “We were planning to start with seven shows but by evening we increased the number of shows to 10 per day. The Karate Kid has the making of a super hit. It looks like an Indian film with lots of sentiments and the underdog emerging triumphant against all odds. Jaden Smith is getting the maximum claps especially in the climax scene, while people are saying it is Jackie Chan’s best ever performance.”
