Indian naval ship arrives in Sri Lanka

An Indian Navy destroyer has called on the Port of Colombo on Sunday on a goodwill visit, Sri Lanka Navy reported.
Sri Lanka Navy and government officials ceremonially welcomed the Indian ship "INS Delhi" which arrived in Colombo in compliance with Indian Navy Chief's visit to Sri Lanka.



INS Delhi, commissioned in 1997, is a guided-missile destroyer with a displacement of 6700 tons and is 163 meters in length and 17 meters in breadth. It has a complement of 410 naval personnel including 50 officers and 360 sailors and is commanded by Captain S Srikant, Sri Lanka Navy reported.
During the stay here, the destroyer is scheduled to participate in special programmes organized by Sri Lanka Navy to enhance the relationship between the two neighboring Navies.
Meanwhile India's Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Nirmal Verma is due to arrive in Colombo today for a five-day visit on an invitation extended by the Sri Lankan government.
