Countries that show sympathy towards terrorism and separatism will be the victims of terrorism, Sri Lanka President says

While some countries battered by terrorism see Sri Lanka's victory as an inspiration, others who face terrorism must reformulate their strategies against terrorism, Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa said today.

Addressing the nation at the Victory Day celebrations held at Gall Face in Colombo Friday, the President said "It is time for the countries facing the attacks of terrorism to look back and see where they have gone wrong."

"It is a grave error of judgment to think that while been opposed to terrorism targeting you, to believe that terrorism that is no threat to you is good," he pointed out.
President Rajapaksa said the countries that show sympathy towards terrorism and separatism will be the victims of terrorism. "This is the lesson of the history," he said.
The President told the nation that they should not leave room for anyone to divide the country again and should have the complete faith and confidence that the country that was liberated from terrorism through great sacrifice of life will not be handed over to the forces of separatism again.
Defending his armed forces against allegations of war crime, the President said "Our armed forces comprise those who went to battle carrying a gun in one hand, the Declaration of Human Rights the other, as well as taking food for the liberated people of the North and full of human kindness in their hearts."
The President, reminding the people that there were attempts to belittle the victory over terrorism, said the allegation that the soldiers shot at terrorist leaders who came carrying white flags is a grave insult to the "heroic troops who shed their blood and gave their lives for the country in this great humanitarian operation."
Noting that the East battered by war was returned to normalcy in a short time, the President promised to resolve the problems faced by the people in the North by the end of the year.
Pointing out the need now is to accelerate reconciliation, the President said "What is most needed to prevent the shedding of blood and tears for the country is to restore the hearts shattered by violence and ease such pain. I am confident that the Sri Lankan nation has the will to achieve this,"
