China assured Sri Lanka today of its commitment to develop the country with its assistance and investment for major economic, infrastructure, and socio-cultural development projects in the country.
During a breakfast meeting with the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the President's House Saturday morning, the visiting Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang discussed the progress of key aspects of economic co-operation between the two countries.
President Rajapaksa has extended his gratitude to China for its continued assistance to Sri Lanka, in the country's efforts to defeat terrorism and for economic and social development both during the conflict and after, the Sri Lankan government reported.
The visiting Chinese official has said that his country values Sri Lanka's continued support in China's policies, especially in the One-China Policy, and Si Lanka's support for China to gain its rightful seat at the UN Security Council.
Six agreements and MoUs relating to the fields of information technology, maritime ports, economic and technical cooperation, and southern transportation development, were signed yesterday during the Vice Premier's meeting with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister.
Ministers of External Affairs Prof. G. L. Peiris, National Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa, Youth Affairs Dullas Alahapperuma, Mass Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella, Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, the Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal, and Secretary to the Treasury Dr. P. B. Jayasundara participated in the discussion.
