Paramhansa Nithyananda, the spiritual guru who was caught on camera in discomforting situation with Tamil film actress Ranjitha, might go technically free on legal grounds.
The Criminal Investigation Department feels the recorded visuals of Nithyananda and Ranjitha do not conclusively prove the charges pinned against him.
The visuals might be shocking, but they are not conclusive on the charges of rape or unnatural sex against Nithyananda. The visuals might also imply the ‘romantic mood’ the duo were in.
The Swami’s tryst with Law
CID is interrogating Nithyananda under seven sections of IPC, including 376 (punishment for rape) and 377 (unnatural offences).
But CID fears Nithyananda might have the last laugh. The visuals in the CD’s are not conclusive and they are partly the same visuals flashed by the media.
In such circumstances, CID has to bank hopes on Ranjitha, who is considered as one of the witnesses. They are keen on recording her statement.
But CID fears the case will collapse, if Ranjitha does not book charges against the swami. Charges of rape and unnatural sex are cognizable offences and one can only implicate Nithyananda if the victims lodge complaints against him.
For others non cognizable offences, Nithynanda can easily avail bail from the court.
Deeds of a Swami
Swami Nithyananda shocked the entire nation when he was caught on camera in a compromising state in bed with actress Ranjitha.
Creating shock waves all over the Tamil Nadu State and abroad, the video was broadcasted on the popular Tamil channel SUN TV. Soon various other national news channels followed suit.
Nithyanand was arrested in Arki by the Bangalore Police, who had sought the help of the Himachal Police.
Cases of rape, criminal intimidation and cheating, among others, have since been filed against the godman based on various complaints.
The swami's ashram has maintained that there is a "conspiracy" to malign Nithyananda, who is confident himself that no such criminal charges can be proved against him.
