Sri Lanka's detained Army Commander pays tribute to war heroes and civilians


Sri Lanka's former Army Commander and DNA Leader Retired General Sarath Fonseka yesterday (19) paid tribute to the brave war heroes and innocent civilians who made the supreme sacrifice to make the military victory against the LTTE possible.

"I salute all those who sacrificed their lives, and committed themselves in the last thirty years to achieve this unprecedented victory," General Fonseka who commanded the Sri Lanka Army in achieving the victory said in a statement.
"Today we are completing one year of liberating the country and the people from the thirty year terrorist activities. On this occasion what comes to my mind are the lives of brave war heroes and innocent people who were victims of war," he said.
The former military chief is being detained since February this year on charges of violating military laws.
