Sri Lanka parliament today voted to approve the extension of some provisions of the Emergency Regulations with a majority of 118 votes.
The emergency extension received 132 votes in favour and 14 against.
Only Tamil National Alliance (TNA) voted against it while the main opposition United National Party (UNP) abstained from voting except for UNP MP M. C. M. Cader who voted in favor.
The government yesterday announced its decision to relax some of the provisions in the Emergency regulations as the country is now returning to normalcy after the conclusion of the war a year ago.
However, the Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne yesterday warned that LTTE networks operating overseas could destabilize the country again.
