Sri Lanka Army dispatches first UN contingent to Chad

May 25,  Sri Lanka is to dispatch the first ever United Nations contingent to Chad today, the Sri Lankan Army announced.
The Army will send 61 of its personnel, 3 officers and 58 other ranks from the Sri Lanka Engineers, inclusive of one from Sri Lanka Electrical Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) are to leave the country this afternoon for Chad on a request from the UN. The group is specialized in earth moving equipment operation.

Another five-member aero medical team has left for Chad few days ago, the Defense Ministry said.
The Army is about to send the latest team of 749 peace keepers to Haiti to relieve the currently serving contingent.
