Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa this evening (28) took part in the opening of the Vesak Zone at the Seemamalakaya of the Gangarama Temple in Colombo.
The President received blessings from the Chief Incumbent of the Gangaramaya Temple, Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara Thero yesterday night (27) on completion of 40 years in politics.
The Buddha Rashmi National Vesak Festival 2010 begins today in the Vesak Zone that encloses the Temple Trees and the Gangarama Viharaya.
The festival includes Bakthi Gee recitals, and cultural displays. Today's programmes are being conducted by the Sri Lanka Army.
India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Ashok Kantha, Secretary to the President Lalith Weerathunge, Additional Secretary Gamini Senarath, ministers and parliamentarians also were present at today's festival.
