Japanese assistance for Sri Lanka's development

The Japanese business community has expressed their willingness to support the Sri Lankan government's development programmes aimed at strengthening the economy.
The Chairman of Japan Nippon Foundation and goodwill ambassador for elimination of leprosy Yohei Sasakawa told this when he met Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees today (07).



Sasakawa who arrived in the island on May 03 for an inspection tour and discussions on leprosy elimination in Sri Lanka informed the President that the Japanese business community has a great enthusiasm to invest in Sri Lanka and help the government to create more employment opportunities.

Sasakawa expressed confidence now that Sri Lanka is marching forward for a massive development after eradicating terrorism, it will become a developed country in Asia in future.

The Nippon Foundation has decided to fund Sri Lanka's leprosy eradication programme which is conducted by the Health Care and Nutrition Ministry.

Secretary to the President Lalith Weerathunge was also present at the meeting.
