A disciplined society based on religious values is the foundation of the country and the government plans to empower religious institutions and education to make the motherland 'Wonder of Asia' Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa said.
President Rajapaksa made these remarks at the 2009 Annual Prize giving ceremony of the Asgiriya Sri Chandananda Buddhist College yesterday (08). The President also declared open a new seven-storied building completed at a cost of 70 million rupees in the school and the Advanced Level laboratory.
The President pointed out that the local intellectual roots were originated in the country due to the Buddhist education which existed for centuries in the country. Prime target of the nation should be creating a generation that is loyal to the country, the President stressed.
President Rajapaksa also paid respects to the Chief Prelate of the Asgiri Chapter most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha thera and the Chief Prelate of the Malwatta Chapter most Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala thera.
School Principal Dr. Godagama Mangala Nayaka thera, Ministers Prof. G.L. Peiris, Geethanjana Gunawardena, K.D.S. Gunawardana, Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayaka, Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Bandara were also present at the occasion.
