The Colombo Chief Magistrate has today issued an order to Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya to produce former Army Commander General (Retd.) Sarath Fonseka in court on May 12 over a statement he had allegedly made to a Sunday newspaper regarding the final phase of the war against the LTTE.
The CID requested Colombo Chief Magistrate Champa Janaki Rajaratne to issue an order to the Army Commander to present General Fonseka, who is currently in military custody, before court to inquire about a comment made by him to The Sunday Leader newspaper during the Presidential election campaign.
General Fonseka in an interview with the newspaper had said that Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had ordered the assassination of several LTTE leaders who had approached the security forces carrying white flags during the final stages of the war against the LTTE last year.
