BP fails to plug oil leak in Gulf of Mexico

Louisiana, May 30: British Petroleum has admitted defeat on Saturday, May 29 in its attempt to plug the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico by putting mud into a damaged well. But BP but is readying with another approach after repeated failures to stop the crude that is all over the marshland and beaches.

BP PLC chief operating officer, Doug Suttles said the company determined their attempt of filling the well had failed after it spent three days pumping mud into the crippled well 5,000 feet (1,500 meters) underwater. More than 1.2 million gallons (4.54 million liters) of mud was used, but most of it came out of the damaged part of the well.

Since the spill has began six weeks ago the company , the company has failed in each of its attempt to stop the leak, as estimates of how much oil is leaking grow more.

`This scares everybody, the fact that we can't make this well stop flowing, the fact that we haven't succeeded so far,'' BP official Suttles said. ``Many of the things we're trying have been done on the surface before, but have never been tried at 5,000 feet'' he added.

Drifting oil has closed beaches and reached in sensitive marshland.President Barack Obama visited the coast Friday, May 28 to see the damage and he assured that his government is in full control of situation.

Meanwhile ,the company now plans to use robot submarines to cut the damaged riser from which the oil is leaking. After that they will try cap it with a valve. The effort is expected to take between four and seven days.
