Police blocked Anoma visiting hospital to see woman raped by 'Namal Balakaya'

A special police posse and CID officers have obstructed when Ms. Anoma Fonseka visited a woman sexually abused by the members of the ‘Blue Brigade.’ The special posse deployed at the hospital and CID officers had told her that they had got orders from the top to prevent her from visiting the relevant woman who is being treated at the hospital after being sexually abused.

However, Ms. Fonseka has opposed the relevant order and had insisted that she should definitely visit the woman to inquire about her condition. There had been a large crowd assembled with Ms. Fonseka and amidst pressure from the crowd the police have allowed only Ms. Fonseka to enter the hospital.  Not even her security officers had been allowed to go into the hospital with Ms. Fonseka.

There had been several journalists who had come to cover the event but the police had said they would not be allowed to cover any incident that would occur there. Ms. Fonseka then visited the victim and had told her regarding measures that would be taken against the culprits.

The woman sexually abused by members of the ‘Blue Brigade’ is an active member of the DNA and she had maintained an election office of the DNA in her residence. Enraged by this members of the ‘Blue Brigade’ abducted her on the 8th, the day of the election, and she was sexually abused by several of the members of the ‘Blue Brigade.’

A complaint No. CIB 157/89 has been lodged at Beliatta Police but so far no action has been taken regarding the heinous crime. The woman, a 31 year old mother of two, is being treated at Ward 18 at Matara General Hospital.
