Indian Prime Minister congratulates Sri Lanka President on election victory

India's Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has congratulated the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on his party's sweeping victory at the 2010 parliamentary polls held Thursday April 8.
The Indian Premier spoke to President Rajapaksa over the phone to express his sincere wishes on the government's convincing win, state-run radio reported.

The ruling United People's Freedom Alliance won 117 seats in the 225-member parliament and the opposition United National Party secured only 46 seats. Results from two districts yet to be released are expected to add more seats to the ruling party.
The party led by President's rival candidate at the presidential election in January, former military commander retired General Sarath Fonseka managed to get only 5 seats in the parliament
