Buddhist monks in Digamadulla demand UNP leader to nominate Daya Gamage from the national lis

The pro-UNP Bikku Council, urges UNP leader, Ranil Wickramasinghe to nominate Mr. Daya Gamage from the national list to the Parliament due to the absence of a Sinhala representation in the area. The Bikku Council in a lettere signed by 140 Buddhist monks in the areas, requested Mr. Wickramasinghe to consider Mr Gamage in the UNP national list to be elected to the parliament to serve and look after Sinhala community's interest in the district.
The letter stated, it is unfair by the Sinhala community in the district due to the non electing of a single Sinhala representative from the district. Two  UNP MPs who had been elected to the  Parliament from Digamadulla district from the last election are Muslims.

However, during 1977 to 1988 their were two Sinhala MPs  represented, while from 1988 up to recent past  one Sinhala MP represented from Digamadulla. These members were elected to Parliament when the UNP contested as a single party.
Further, letter stated, the UNP contested the last Parliamentary election joining several political parties including  the Muslim Congress. All Muslim Congress candidates  contested from the UNF ticket, campaigned by taking a pro Muslim and racial stance obstructing and by-passing specially Sinhala candidates, they stated .
The Bikku Council expressed  that, Mr Gamage is the ideal person to be nominated to the Parliament by considering Sinhala community factor in the district.Mr.Gamage who is also a person who `donates his personal funds for the benefit of the people in the Digamadulla district.
When contacted Mr. Gamage by Bikkus in the area on this proposal, he said if he had been nominated to the Parliament he will move forward all development activities more efficiently and effectively in the district.
UNP Bikku Council stated, if Mr. Daya Gamage not being nominated to the next Parliament, the UNP's vote base in the area will be dwindled to the back ground,
