M.I.A.: F*** You New York Times!

When The New York Times named Sri Lanka one of the "31 Places To Go in 2010", they described it as a "tropical zoo," where "miles of sugary white sand...that were off limits to most visitors until recently" are a "happy, if unintended byproduct of the war." Naturally, musician M.I.A.--a Sri Lankan native and daughter of a Tamil political activist--flipped.

A bloody civil war between the Sri Lankan government and Tamil insurgents technically ended in May--which may be what prompted the New York Times to declare it the number one place to holiday in 2010--but M.I.A. was born during the war and only moved to London in 1986 with refugee status. Understandably, she took offense to the Times' happy-go-lucky tourist endorsement of the country.

In response to the article, M.I.A tweeted:

“FUCK NEW YORK TIMES! DO YOU THINK YOU NEED TO GO HERE ON VACATION?”

She later added:

"ONCE AGAIN FUCK NEW YORK TIMES !!!!!!!!! GET YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT."

The tweets included photos of dead bodies and murdered children. (They are incredibly graphic, but can be viewed here and here.)
