
Colombo: government has taken steps to relax the high security measures that had been imposed around the schools in the Jaffna peninsula, the government media unit said today.
The government has taken this measure to provide a relaxed environment to the students.
According to the government media, the security zone that existed around the two leading schools in the Point Pedro area, Hartley College and the Methodist Girls' School has been shifted to a new location near the Point Pedro jetty area.
Sri Lankan Soldiers who occupied the two schools have also vacated the premises.
The area of the old security zone covered the schools, the court and the urban council.
The public and students no longer have to go through security checkpoints as they have done in the past, the government said.
