Colombo: British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Dr. Peter Hayes is on a three-day visit to the Uva Province from Monday, December 14th.
Starting his tour on Monday, the HC met with the Uva Province Governor Nanda Matthew to discuss the challenges and opportunities the province is facing, the High Commission in Colombo said.
Dr. Hayes also visited the Sri Lanka's indigenous community in Dambana on an invitation from the chieftain of the Vedda community Uruwarige Wanniyala Aththo.
The aborigines treated the High Commissioner to a traditional meal and a performance of traditional vedda folk music. Later, he visited the museum of the indigenous people and planted a sapling to mark the occasion.
He said he was delighted to enjoy the time with the indigenous people talking about their history, and most importantly about their future.
The High Commissioner is scheduled to meet several other people during his official visit including the Bishop of the Badulla diocese, Senior DIG Uva Range, and several politicians.
He will also visit several archaeological and religious sites in the Uva Province, Uva Wellassa University and the Estate community in Passara before returning to Colombo on Wednesday.
