Former trade union leader Alavi Moulana has called a protest against the trade union action launched by public sector employees seeking a salary increment claiming it to be the work of individuals working for petty political gain.
Alavi Moulana has called the protest following advice received by the President. Moulana’s protest is to be held opposite the Fort railway station tomorrow (10) with crowds gathered by Ministers Mervyn Silva and Dullas Alahapperuma.
The Transport Minister had told the President that collecting crowds for the protest was no big task for him, as he has been able to
collect crowds for a lunch packet and Rs. 200 during the last Provincial Council election.
The President had decided to form an alternative alliance of trade unions to combat the current trade union action launched by many public sector employees, which several political analysts have warned would have an adverse impact in the run up to the general and Presidential elections.
