Prabha’s doctor makes voluntary statement

A doctor who served in the Jaffna Government Hospital and later joined the LTTE medical team and treated its leader Velupillai Prabhakaran and LTTE cadres who sustained injuries in conflicts with the forces, made a voluntary statement in camera before Colombo Additional Magistrate Ayesha Abdeen yesterday.

The suspect, Sivapalan Sinnadurai, of Pudukkudiyiruppu, Mullaituvu, who is in detention in the CID over his involvement with the LTTE and its leader, had agreed to make a statement to the magistrate, in order to reveal vital information.

After the magistrate informed the suspect that his confession could be used against him and of the consequences he might have to face as a result, he was still willing to make the statement, which was recorded in camera by the magistrate.

The suspect was arrested at the Omathai road block by a team of police officers headed by Sub Inspector Abdeen, and detained at the Terrorist Investigation Division where investigations were conducted.

The investigations had revealed that the suspect had joined the movement in 1997 and been the physician of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran from then on.
