The Kerala government has given a 50% entertainment tax concession to the producers of forthcoming magnum opus Pazhassi Raja, the costliest Malayalam film till date being made in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil with a whopping budget of over Rs. 25 crores.
Pazhassi Raja will have to pay only 12.5% as tax in corporation areas where entertainment tax on Malayalam films is 25%. In municipalities and panchayats also, where the tax is 20% and 10% respectively, the tax will be reduced by half. After the government reduced the tax, the producers have withdrawn their plea to increase the ticket rates.
Marking the coming together of super star Mammootty, eminent writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair and director Hariharan after a gap of 20 years, Pazhassi Raja is scheduled for release this Friday in 120 centres in Kerala. It has music by Ilayaraja and the sound effects are by Oscar winner Resul Pookutty.
