The G.A. of the Nuwara Eliya district D.P.G. Kumarasiri stated around 250 families have been displaced due to the heavy rain fall in the district during the last few days. It is observed that the water levels of the Maussakele and Castle-ree dams have gone up. Therefore, the sluice gates have been opened to enable the water the flow to the river. As a result Mr. Kumarasiri further stated that there could be a situation where the water levels of the Kelani River might go up in the next few days. Meanwhile, around 30 houses in the Johnson Estate and ten houses in Kotagala Rosita Estate are damaged due to mini cyclone experienced in these areas. Around six houses also damaged in the Ambagamuwa, Kalugala division. The divisional secretaries and the relevant authorities have taken necessary steps to provide relief assistance to the people who have been displaced due to these natural disasters. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department says the present weather will prevail for the next few days. The central part of the country has been affected mostly due to the bad weather. The Department further states heavy winds and rains will gradually cease in the next few days. |
