Investigations following the riots and arsenal in Sri Lanka's Magazine remand prison have revealed that two prison officials and eight major drug dealers were involved in the riots.
The prison officials include one overseer and a prison guard. They are suspected of planning the riot aiming to oust the Superintendent of Prisons Emil Ranjan who acted against drugs and other crimes in the prison. The two prison officials who were engaged in drug peddling have earned a massive wealth, investigation has revealed. Colombo Crime Division and Criminal Investigation Department are now interrogating the suspects who allegedly organized the revolt. Rioting prisoner set fire to several buildings including the documentation room during the incident causing damages of around Rs. 7.5 million to prison properties. The riots injured 5 prison officials and 26 prisoners.
