Sri Lankan court sentences two to 11 years RI for supplying information to LTTE on Minister

A Sri Lankan court today sentenced two people to ii years of rigorous imprisonment for supplying information to the Liberations Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) to assassinate the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (Mahajana Wing) leader Mangala Samaraweera.



Colombo High Court judge Sunil Rajapaksha sentenced the suspects when the case filed by the Attorney General was heard today.
The two suspects, G.G. Ranaweera alias Malli and Sampath Thushara were accused of providing information in 2006 on the movements of former minister to assassinate him either in Colombo or in his electorate, Matara.
The pair was also accused of concealing information from law enforcement authorities.
The first Foreign Minister and Ports and Aviation Minsiter of President Mahinda Rajapaksa's government, Samaraweera fell out with the President and formed the new SLFP (M) in 2007 after he was sacked from his portfolios.
